Understand your true hiring needs.

What are your businesses’ goals in the next year? Five years? Ten years?

The people you hire can propel you toward those goals, or they can make achievement next to impossible. To understand your true hiring needs, first look at your department’s and company’s goals. Then, focus on updating the job description with a view toward how the position can provide maximum momentum toward those goals.

Keep job descriptions up to date and readable.

What are the day-to-day demands of the position? What skills are used most often on the job—which are used less often, but are indispensable when the time comes? What parts of the job description are out of date or inaccurate?
