You know the ins and outs of marketing most any product or service, but how are you at marketing you? When it comes to job interviews, you are the product, so be prepared to leverage your marketing know-how to win the job. Here are some common questions you may be asked.

Describe Marketing Campaigns You Have Run in the Past.

This is where both experience and homework pay off. If you have done your research on the company, you know where their greatest challenges lie. Emphasize the campaigns in your past that align most closely with what you may be asked to do on the job.

How Would You Launch Our Company’s New Product?

The interviewer may give you a hypothetical to test your marketing knowledge, creativity and thought process. Take your time coming up with an answer. Walk through your response one step at a time and don’t hesitate to ask any clarifying questions you may have.

Give An Example Of How You Have Worked Within Budget.

Resources are limited for a lot of companies. They may be less interested in what you might be able to do given unlimited funds than they are in how you can make an impact with only a shoestring budget to work with.

Tell Me What You Know About Our Target Market.

Show off your research on the company by taking an educated guess on their market. Take it a step further by talking about what strategies you would use to effectively target that market.

Why Are You Interested in Joining Our Marketing Department?

The interviewer wants to know what you find interesting about their product and what impact you could have on their market. This is another opportunity to express your familiarity with the company and what marketing strategies you would employ if hired.

What Impact Has Big Data Had On Marketing?

A question like this could be asked for a couple of reasons. One, because Big Data has had a considerable impact on how markets and analyzed are segmented. Secondly, the interviewer is trying to gauge how savvy you are about the latest marketing trends and wants you to demonstrate some thoughtfulness on the topic.
