What feels better than receiving a job offer with a great company? Receiving two offers, of course!

But when the elation wears off, you’re left with a tough choice. You can only take one of the two offers, so which one will it be? If you’re weighing the decision between two job offers with outstanding companies, here are some factors to consider:

The Total Financial Package

It’s tempting simply to choose based on salary alone – but if you do, you might sell yourself short financially. Instead, sit down and calculate the total financial package: wages, bonuses, commissions, profit sharing, or other money available, plus medical and dental coverage, employer-matched retirement contributions, life insurance, and other benefits. Remember to calculate whether or not you’ll use these additional benefits – if they’re useless to you, you won’t reap the financial benefit.

The Nonfinancial Elements

The job offer includes more than merely the money, and your consideration of the offer should do so as well. Once you have a number on the financial package, set the money aside and consider the non-financial parts of the offer. Does it include flex time, telecommuting options, or extended vacations? Do you get some promising “perks,” like an on-campus gym or catered lunches? Only you can decide what these elements are worth to you in terms of helping you reach your career goals.

Personal and Professional Growth

Finally, consider the workplace’s culture and the opportunities you are being offered for professional and personal growth. Which employer made you feel the most comfortable or welcomed when you interviewed? Did the people you talked to seem like a great group of individuals? Did you “belong” there, or did you feel awkward? Also, how well does the company support the professional development of its sales and marketing teams, and in what ways: Tuition reimbursement, time off to attend conferences or take certification exams, or other options? Remember that you’re planning to grow a career, so choose the most fertile grounds to grow the career you’re dreaming of.
