  1. What’s something you haven’t told us that we’ll find out within three months?

Interview candidates put all their energy into presenting the best possible vision of themselves. During their first 90 days on the job, however, new hires begin to show their quirks, unusual qualities, or character flaws – all of which make them more complex, and also more human.

This question allows you to find out more about the human who will show up to do the job, not just the carefully constructed interview persona.

  1. What do you want to be when you grow up?

A variation on “What’s your dream job?” or “Where do you see yourself in five years?”, this question encourages interviewees to think big by tapping into the sense of wonder and limitless possibility they had as a child. The answers can reveal not only the candidate’s career plans, but also their passions and values – helping you determine whether they’re a good fit for your company culture.

  1. How can people earn an extra gold star with you?

In other words, “What do you prize most from coworkers or supervisors?” By asking the question more generally, you encourage candidates to think broadly about the values and behaviors they prize most in those around them, and which they are most likely to support in a team setting.

  1. How do you like to receive feedback?

Every medical marketing team member needs to be able to receive, process and consider feedback. By asking this question, you learn more about the candidate’s self-awareness when it comes to accepting and integrating criticism. You may also learn how they have responded in the past to negative feedback, including what they did to fix the problem.
